-? Georgia College & State University, Milledgeville, GA, has selected S&C Electric Company's PureWave UPS? System to maintain consistent power quality to the computer room supporting their information technology activities.
Short-duration voltage sags and power outages were adversely affecting the productivity of students using the PCs in the room and were causing problems to the air conditioning system as well.
The college wanted to increase the number of PCs in the room and knew that maintaining power quality to the computers and the requisite additional air conditioning equipment was a must.
One problem: No indoor floor space was available for the power protection equipment.

Internet live streaming TV - it is realy cool
Tonight I stumbled upon something extremely cool... something I had hoped would be available
to those of us using the 700w with unlimited bandwidth... live video streaming TV.
I found it by going to an IE bookmark to windowsmedia.com -- right at the top is a link for
"Watch Live TV" (smartvideo.com) -- I clicked it and set up a free 7-day account and within
a few minutes later I was watching live streaming MSNBC TV. It wasn't that great, so I
checked out the "Settings" link buried at the bottom of the page. There it had the option to
switch it from the default "low speed" to "high speed" -- then I watched the MSNBC stream
again and *WOW* -- the video and audio were incredible!!! I even had it playing while
driving around town just to see if it would stay going...
it did... for a long time!
Unfortunately they only have a few live video streams......

S&C's PureWave AVC Approved by Arizona Utility to Eliminate Voltage Flicker Problems for Metal Recycler.
A metal recycler in Phoenix, AZ, is installing an S&C Electric Company PureWave AVC? Adaptive VAR Compensator to eliminate voltage flicker resulting from the very large current surges caused by their car shredding operation.
The recycler plans to add a new 6,000-HP shredder to their operation and has been working with the local utility to solve the voltage flicker problem and reduce the possibility of power factor penalties. The utility approved S&C's AVC to provide the necessary reactive power compensation. The 8,000-kVAR, 4.16-kV PureWave AVC is scheduled to be installed in October 2003.
It will reduce the voltage fluctuations and manage the reactive power flow, and improve power quality for other customers on the utility feeder.
